Money & payments — banks, exchange and mobile money
The currency
Senegal's currency is the CFA franc (XOF), pegged to the euro at a fixed rate: €1 = 655.957 FCFA. ATMs are widespread in Dakar and Saly, and international cards are accepted in the main hotels, restaurants and shops.
Mobile money, the local habit
In Senegal, a large share of everyday payments runs on mobile money — Wave and Orange Money above all. Taxis, shops, restaurants: paying by QR code or transfer is everywhere. Visitors can open an account locally with a Senegalese number; it is often the easiest way to settle small expenses.
Exchanging and withdrawing
Banks and licensed exchange bureaus operate in all three host cities and at AIBD airport. Avoid informal money changers. Find the referenced establishments below, with addresses and opening hours.
